experience the strengthening of their path to God.

focusing the participants on the topics for the

Awareness: The discussion question is: how do you
become aware of the importance of serving and how
does this become a passion?
Each Week One Of The
Following 7 (or 8) Questions Will Be Discussed:
Do you know what you
believe?
Do you know why you believe that?
Do you understand that what you do
affects others and yourself?
Do you recognize you always have
choices?
What do you feel you need to make a
choice about?
What makes something spiritually
meaningful?
Who is God to you?
When did you become aware of God in
your life?
The Question That We Will Discuss
At The Path 3 Group Meeting Is:
Do You Understand That What You Do Affects Others
and Yourself?
The Path 3 Poem:
The Mystic of the Week is St. Thomas
Aquinas (1225-1274). Regarded as one of the greatest
Catholic theologians
"Otherwise the
Darkness,"
I have a Cause.
We need those
don't we.
Otherwise the
darkness and the cold gets in
and everything starts to ache.
My soul has a purpose, it is to love:
if I do not fullfill my heart's vacation.
I suffer
--St Thomas
Aquinas
Path 3 Exercise:
Ponder this poem for a day
- every day for the week. Note what it means to you
and note your thoughts. Those meeting in a group
will share what they are moved to share about those
thoughts.
Mystical Path 3 Serving Your
Spirit By Servicing: The Everyday Mystic
Chakra Three:
Fire, Ego identity, oriented to self-definition
This chakra is known as the power chakra, located in
the solar plexus. It rules our personal power, will,
and autonomy, as well as our metabolism. When
healthy, this chakra brings us energy,
effectiveness, spontaneity, and non-dominating power
Joan Borysenko presents several
examples of charismatic power or the power to marry
words and passion that motivate people to act or not
act. The first is Marin Luther King and others
include Adolf Hitler and Saddam Hussein.
What is really important is that the same energy
that fueled those and every other leader is within
us. The true energy is humble not in the sense that
it is quiet, but in the understanding that the power
is God's. Remind yourself that the God you pray to,
the God you petition, is within you and is that same
energy that propelled and propels every person who
you know and know of.
Many resources suggest and lecture on the importance
of serving. I suggest you debate the following: the
path to serving others begins with serving ourselves
for when we know who we are we understand that to
help others is the way to channel the God within us
to meet and acknowledge the God with you.
Joan remarks she believes many of us
will never know our life purpose in human form. If
that is true it is simply because we don't ask the
question. Is it possible to understand our life's
purpose by asking the question "what is my purpose?"
Well, ask it and begin the journey to discover the
answer.
Joan also remarks that she does not
think she is a Path 3 mystic. She rationalize this
because she enjoys leisure time, waking her dogs and
"hanging out." I am not convinced that we need
to place ourselves between a large fishing vessel
and a whale to demonstrate we are a Path 3 mystic
serving to save the whales.
Suggestions for the Path 3 Mystic
( the details of these suggestions are in Joan's
book.)
Beware of Power
Beware of Charisma
Seek Conscious Communion With God
Take Time For Yourself
Nurture Your Relationships
Cultivate a Sense of Humor
Cultivate Patience

Path #3
The defining question for the Path 3
mystic is: Whom do I serve - myself or God? This is
where I digress from the material in Joan's book and
the workbook. The clarity I add is we serve our
basic human needs first and expand upon our human
desires by serving others. We are served well to
recognize that, at times, the shortest path to
serving ourselves is to serve others. Fix ourselves
before we can help others and the paradox is we help
others to help ourselves.
Exercises For Week 3:
Read the book 7 Paths To God through
Path #3
Read a poem from Love Poems from God. Share one of
your favorite poems with the group
Select one word - a prayer word - to use when the
mind becomes busy and distracted. Share your word
with your group.
Take time for yourself
Cultivate a sense of humor.
