Path 3: Supplemental Information For The
Question: Whom Do I Serve?
The
book I have chosen as a source of additional
information is "Why You're Dumb Sick & Broke And How
To Get SMART, HEALTHY, & RICH" by Randy Gage.
(The advantages of being a Spirit Expressing
Facilitator include being able to pick the
supplemental resources like this book. Maybe next
year you will choose to be a facilitator.)
Randy is a self made multi-millionaire deriving his
prosperity from public speaking on prosperity. He an
author of numerous books and CD's. Randy is an
active member of the Unity Church and gives of his
time and resources generously. Randy is also a top
earner in the multi-level business of Agel (see
International Success).
If you haven't already noticed by the
title of the book featured here, Randy is a no
nonsense "in your face" messenger. Randy's work led
me to The First
Unity Church of St. Petersburg and ultimately to
being a facilitator of Spirit Expressing.
Chapter 9 is titled "The Merits of Selfishness. The
Need for Enlightened Self Interest." Randy writes
that the dictionary defines selfishness as concern
for one's own interests without regard for others."
That means you value yourself first, regardless of
what anyone else thinks Notice there is no good or
evil implicit in the definition. Without regard for
others does not mean that you are doing harm to
others. It simply means you are well adjusted and
sensible enough to meet your own needs first.
If you question this point, I simply
ask: how can you value anyone else if you don't
value yourself first?
Randy continues with "your survival and pursuit of
happiness must form the foundation of your value
system - to design your life by your own means, with
your own standards, and for your own enjoyment.
Anything less than that is harmful to you. And
anything harmful to the individual is actually
detrimental to society as a whole.
Chapter 9 of Randy's book is
outrageous to many people and most of this material
is outside the scope of the topic "How Best Do I
Serve" Some think Randy believes in pursuing only
activities that bring instant pleasure. Far from it
actually. He writes "pleasure is not a first cause
but a consequence - the consequence of actions you
take because you have made a rational value
judgment. Here is an example: Randy's number one
expense on his tax return is charity. He openly
states he does it for a purely selfish reason. That
reason is that giving gives him pleasure. Now just
for minute imagine what he would be able to do if he
abused his body with addictive substances and was on
welfare.
Randy concludes this chapter by emphasizing the
importance of defining your purpose and sites
several messages from the author Ian Percy who says:
:Knowing your own purpose is the greatest thing you
can do for yourself - simultaneously and
synergistically there is no greater way to serve
others."
Most people are just worker drones in the
collective, living their lives of quiet desperation.
We are surrounded by mediocrity, depravity, and
fear. But if you deeper you see something else.
You will begin to recognize the enormity of the
human spirit, and the greatness we are capable of.
You realize that man is not inherently weak and
helpless, he just becomes that way when he refuses
to lose his mind.
And you recognize that you yourself can do great
things, and do them for the right reasons. You can
be bold, daring and imaginative and live a life of
health, happiness, and abundance all while leaving
the world a better place because you walked on it
for awhile. You can do this and more when you live
your life with purpose.
In my view Randy gives us a great
roadmap to the answer to "How Best May I Serve?"
The following is repeated from last
week because I would like to examine the
sentence before the last line:
The Law of Dharma or Purpose In
Life
From
Deepak:
Everyone has a purpose in life..a unique gift or
special talent to give to others. And when we blend
this unique talent with service to others, we
experience the ecstasy and exultation of our own
spirit, which is the ultimate goal of all goals.
How do you know what
that is - that unique talent? One way is for when
you are doing it, you lose complete track of time.
When you combine the ability to express your unique
talent with service to humanity, then you make full
use of the Law of Dharma. And coupled with the field
of pure potentiality, there is no way you will not
have access to unlimited abundance, because that is
the real way abundance is achieved.
How can I help? Rather
than What is in it for me?
(Is this in conflict
with what Randy Gage writes? Not at all in my view.
Randy knows that the better he is, the more people
are helped in a positive way. In fact I personally
know that Randy went to work in the Agel network
marketing business because he was searching for the
answer for himself "How Best May I Serve?"
You have heard it before: if money was no concern
and you had all the time and money in the world,
what would you do?
Finally I Will Use More Material From Randy Gage
As We Head Towards Our Seventh and Final Week.
Fasten Your Seatbelts!
